The National Institute of Health reports that 15% of 55-64 year olds, 30% of 65-74 year olds, and 40% of those 75+ have a hearing loss that affect communication.

There are many causes of hearing loss in adults such as disease or infection, ototoxic drugs, exposure to noise, tumors, trauma, and the normal aging process.

Hearing loss due to aging (presbycusis) can be an invisible handicap.  Most patients with hearing loss have no difficulty hearing in a quiet room.  They typically have trouble hearing when there is competing noise or when the speaker is a female or child.  This is because most patients have high frequency hearing loss.

Most patients struggle with hearing loss for years before bringing it up to their physician.  Many of our patients often comment that they wish they new earlier that help was available.   Today, with all the advanced digital technology, high frequency hearing loss can be significantly improved.

It is important to wear ear protection in noisy environments and have routine ear examinations to help prevent hearing loss.

If you have ANY concerns regarding your hearing capabilities, please schedule an appointment for this FREE hearing screening on May 14, from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm at (773) 564-5747.
