Relationship to the University of Chicago Medical Center

Weiss Memorial Hospital has been affiliated with the University of Chicago Medical Center for over fifteen years. The first official affiliation with the University of Chicago Medical Center took place in 1987. At this time, an affiliation was executed with the belief that the integration of the hospitals would produce a highly University of Chicago Medical Centerproductive medical establishment for the betterment of health and medical education in Chicago and its surroundings. This merger combined the personal care of a smaller community hospital with the advancements of a major academic medical center, incorporating technology, medical education programs and research, resulting in the highest quality medical treatment available. This affiliation was expanded in 1992 to include the University of Chicago Division of Biological Sciences.

Since these affiliation agreements were signed in 1987 and 1992, the University of Chicago Medical Center and Weiss Memorial Hospital have collaborated to develop a variety of medical programs and strategic initiatives.

Today we still maintain our affiliation with the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) through a joint venture formed by Vanguard Health Systems (Vanguard) and UCMC. Vanguard has an 80% ownership and UCMC retains a 20% stake in Weiss. The joint venture ensures that many of UCMC's clinical and educational programs are available through Weiss.
