Who can volunteer?
Anyone older than age 13 can volunteer. We like bright, energetic and outgoing individuals to contribute a positive attitude within our hospital.

What hours do volunteers work?
Most volunteers work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Additional times are available, depending on the department in which you are placed.

What should a volunteer wear while in the hospital?
Volunteers are required to wear a volunteer jacket, which will be provided by the hospital. It is the volunteer’s responsibility to keep the jacket clean and in good condition. Blue jeans are not allowed. In certain departments, scrubs are acceptable. More information regarding attire will be discussed during orientation. A hospital ID badge must be worn at all times.

What can I expect at the volunteer orientation?
You will view a short film about the importance of patient privacy, also known as HIPAA. The volunteer coordinator will provide additional information about the various departments that utilize volunteers and answer general questions about the hospital. During orientation, you will be asked to provide your social security number for a background check. The volunteer orientation takes approximately one hour.

When may I start volunteering?
It takes approximately one week for the background check to be completed. Once the background check is complete, the volunteer coordinator will contact you for placement. At this time, you will receive your volunteer jacket and your ID badge.

Where do I park?
Volunteers are provided free parking in the parking garage on Clarendon Avenue, just west of the hospital.

Are meals provided to volunteers?
If you volunteer three hours or more, a meal voucher worth $5 will be provided to you to use in the cafeteria. If your meal costs more than $5, you will be required to pay the difference.

What if I am going to be late or miss my volunteer shift?
Please call the department in which you are volunteering to report a late arrival or if you plan to miss a shift. Call the main hospital number at (773) 878-8700 and ask to be transferred to your particular department.
