The Nuclear Medicine department at Vanguard Weiss Memorial Hospital performs diagnostic procedures on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, with most of its specialty work closely linked to treatment of heart patients. The combination of these two specialties provides a practical approach to the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of patients with suspected coronary artery disease.
Nuclear medicine specialists also provide diagnostic exams relative to the endocrine, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and skeletal systems. Inflammatory process and tumor imaging can be achieved by whole body gallium and white cell labeling studies.
Our procedure rooms are equipped with three nuclear medicine cameras and a radioactive dose preparation lab. Procedures include, but are not limited to: bone scan, V-Q (lung) scan, myocardial perfusion, thyroid study and radioactive iodine treatments. A recent procedure added to the nuclear medicine department's diagnostic capabilities is lymphscintigraphy.
The department's hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A nuclear technologist is on call at all times for emergency procedures. After hours, call the main hospital phone number: (773) 878-8700
. All nuclear medicine procedures must be scheduled using the outpatient procedure scheduling phone number: (773) 564-7777
Patients must register on the first floor with the admitting office personnel and must have a signed physician's order.
