Weiss began with strength in oncology, a strength we retain today.
Started over 30 years ago as a unique entity in a community hospital to promote the research and treatment of cancer, our Strauss Cancer Center continues to participate in regional, national and industrial clinical research studies through the University of Chicago’s Section of Hematology and Oncology, in addition to drug company-sponsored programs. By participating in these clinical trials, we are able to offer our patients the latest treatment for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies.
Unlike most community hospitals, the Strauss Cancer Center at Weiss has dedicated on-site oncologists who provide highly personalized attention to our patients and their families. On call 24 hours, seven days a week, our oncologists remain highly accessible to those who need us most. Certified oncology nurses work closely with our oncologists and other team members, including surgeons, lymphedema specialists, radiation oncologists, nutritionists, radiologists, physical therapists, social workers and pastoral staff, adding yet another important dimension to our seamless care. Our experienced staff includes nurses and physicians that have been providing care at Weiss for over 30 years.
In an effort to consolidate and further strengthen the range of cancer care services available within our community, our cancer specialists and infusion cancer center recently moved to the third floor of Weiss’ brand new, state-of-the-art medical office building. The remarkable new facility demonstrates a renewed commitment to providing the best cancer care for our patients.
Our highly trained radiation oncology staff provides a warm and caring environment for patients needing radiation therapy. All imaging components, such as MRI, are right here on site.
Our multidisciplinary team is committed to providing the best possible care for cancer patients, and focuses on identifying cancer at an early phase of the disease when chances of successful treatment are best.
