Vascular Institute of Chicago at Weiss

Vascular Institute of Chicago at WeissMinimally Invasive Treatments
The vascular surgeons at Weiss are experts with minimally invasive treatments, which can use a catheter or medications to clear blockages. These procedures offer shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, less pain, less scarring and less tissue injury. The experts here, with decades of experience and leadership in the latest research, are developing and using non-operative and operative techniques for vascular reconstruction.

Advanced Diagnostics, Innovative Treatments
Treatments include medical therapy, conventional operative procedures and minimally invasive catheter-based interventions such as angioplasty, stenting and stent grafting for aneurysm clot dissolution. Our physicians are experts at surgery and sclerotherapy, and they have unique expertise on carotid plaque risk based on clinical research and publication.

Our Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory uses ultrasound technology and Doppler imaging to see plaque formation and artery narrowing. This equipment enhances our ability to make accurate diagnoses and treatment plans for patients. The lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories and is staffed with a highly experienced team.

The Vascular Institute of Chicago at Weiss will be the first in the nation to have FDA-approved use of the da Vinci® Surgical System for vascular procedures on the lower extremities. This innovative technique could lead to many other robot-assisted vascular surgeries in the future, making surgeries less invasive and often easier from which to heal.

Stroke Screening
Stroke is the third most common cause of death in the United States. Many people who have strokes do not experience symptoms, but a preventive ultrasound may identify a patient’s risk before any damage is done. An ultrasound of the carotid arteries can show whether there is a buildup of fatty plaque—the leading cause of strokes. The specialists at the Vascular Institute of Chicago at Weiss, with the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory, can assess a patient’s risk for stroke through a variety of tests and imaging procedures.

During a stroke, serious symptoms signal the need for immediate medical attention:

  • Weakness, numbness or tingling on one side
  • Dim or blurry vision, or no vision in one eye
  • Inability to speak clearly or comprehend others
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Dizziness
  • Sudden falls or loss of balance
  • Sudden severe headache

Find out if you’re at risk for a stroke, aneurysm or peripheral vascular disease with a three-point vascular screening at the Vascular Institute of Chicago at Weiss. The screening costs only $99 and takes 30 minutes. For more information on the next screening date call (773) 564-5770.
