The labrum acts as seal for the hip joint and supports many functions of the hip in general, including maintaining stability and flexibility, and bearing weight. It is also the “glue” that keeps all the other parts of the hip joint in the correct position. If the labrum tears, any number of areas of the hip may be affected; untreated
labral tears could eventually lead to arthritis. Through arthroscopic surgery, the surgeon uses small sutures attached to anchors set into the bone to sew and repair the labral tear.
