For several seasons, orthopedic and sports medicine experts of the Chicago Center for Orthopedics (CCO) have been providing medical care to Chicago Sky players, as the exclusive healthcare partner for the women’s professional basketball team. The partnership is part of the CCO’s overall commitment to improve the health of the community by caring for both professional players and amateur athletes.
The Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky are members of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and play their home games at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. View the Chicago Sky Schedule.
An important goal of the partnership is to build upon Weiss’ commitment to educate our surrounding communities about healthy lifestyles and fitness. CCO's sports medicine specialists provide patient-centric care to these expert athletes, as well as novices of all ages as Weiss sponsors Chicago Sky Basketball Clinics in the metro area. Player and mascot appearances throughout the season also will help to promote the importance of health for life through sports and physical activity.
The Sports Medicine Experts at Weiss
Sports medicine specialists Benjamin Domb, M.D. and Suzanne Pham, M.D., serve as team physicians for the Chicago Sky. They and the other CCO orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians—with affiliations at Chicago’s finest academic and research facilities, including the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois and Loyola University Chicago—provide the Chicago Sky with medical care to ensure their long-term health and viability on and off the court as professional athletes. CCO already boasts high patient, physician and employee satisfaction scores—among the highest in the nation—illustrating the dedication behind the expertise.
This medical partnership not only keeps the outstanding Sky athletes healthy and at top performance, but also serves as a vehicle for outreach to competitive and recreational athletes of all levels, from professionals to weekend warriors. Through interaction with the community and ongoing education, our goal is to improve injury prevention and even injury care with minimally invasive or arthroscopic surgery.
New techniques in hip arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair and ACL reconstruction have enabled athletes with injuries in the shoulder, hip or knee to rapidly recover, return to sports and get on with their lives. CCO's Sports Medicine team provides the right balance between preventive care, individual athlete/patient understanding and leading edge techniques.
