Nursing Care Services
Following is a descriptive overview of the various patient care areas and services offered at Weiss.
This 24-bed surgical unit cares for patients recovering from orthopedic, G.I. and general surgeries.
This 10-bed geriatric psychiatry unit treats patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders.
This 29-bed unit cares for patients diagnosed with heart failure, irregular heartbeats, chest pain and loss of consciousness (syncope). The unit is divided into areas that care for patients released from intensive care (ICU step-down), need constant supervision by automatic measurement and transmission of data (telemetry), or require general medical-surgical care.
A total of 22 beds are capable of telemetry monitoring; six of these beds are designated as ICU step-down beds.
This 34-bed unit cares for medical-surgical geriatric patients. Two negative pressure rooms are available for patients requiring airborne isolation. This unit mainly cares for geriatric patients with respiratory infections and inflammation, simple pneumonia and pleurisy, digestive disorders, cellulitis, septicemia and major complications.
Weiss Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Services offer an acute, 26-bed rehabilitation unit on this floor. The program offers comprehensive rehabilitation for patients admitted with disabilities. Each patient is assigned a team of specially trained staff who work collaboratively with the patient and family to help the patient become as functionally independent as possible.
Intensive Care Unit
Our state-of-the-art intensive care unit is a 16-bed combined medical/surgical and coronary intensive care unit. The unit cares for patients with unstable angina or who are recovering from vascular, open heart or stent placement surgery; congestive heart failure; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; or pneumonia.
This 12-bed unit offers comprehensive emergency medical care to patients 24 hours a day. The ED features a state-of-the-art trauma room, chest pain program for fast evaluation and treatment, bedside triage and registration to expedite treatment and discharge, and a decontamination room specially equipped to care for chemical and biohazard emergencies.
Specially trained in emergency medicine, physicians, nurses, paramedic technicians and clerical staff coordinate treatment for a variety of medical, surgical, orthopedic and critical problems of patients visiting or brought to the department.
Specialty consultation is available for most medical problems and patients are treated or referred for appropriate medical care.
Surgeries at Weiss can be performed in the William J. Tannenbaum Ambulatory Surgery Center or in an adjacent suite of operating rooms. The ambulatory surgery center offers patients pre-operation preparation for same-day admissions, anesthesia consultations and recovery room functions for intravenous sedation procedures.
The ambulatory surgery center has five pre-operation bays and seven post-operation rooms, including two minor procedure rooms, one of which houses a Yag laser. The Weiss operating room sector consists of eight suites and two eye center rooms located on the fourth floor.
Additionally, Weiss’ post-anesthesia care unit consists of 14 bays and one post-operation isolation room and is located adjacent to the suite of operating rooms.
