Chicago, IL – On June 12, 2007, the Chicago Sun-Times featured a health article focusing on the early detection of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). 

According to Dr. Hisham Bassiouny, University of Chicago Medical Center’s interim chief of vascular surgery and director of Weiss Memorial Hospital’s noninvasive vascular lab, screening for this silent killer makes sense for at-risk people, including those over 60 with at least two of the following criteria:

  • Smoker (current or former)
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetic
  • Family history of aneurysms
  • High blood pressure
  • Problems walking
