CHICAGO (June 24, 2009) — James M. Renneker, RN, MSN, FACHE, will join Weiss Memorial Hospital as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, effective June 29. Renneker brings more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, with a background as a nurse manager, executive director and most recently as Vice President of Nursing at NorthShore University HealthSystem, Highland Park Hospital.
"Jim will be a strong advocate for nursing, and his experience in hospital operations will be a great asset for us as we continue to meet the needs of our patients and develop Weiss into an industry leader," said Frank Molinaro, Chief Executive Officer at Weiss.
As COO and CNO, Renneker will oversee operations and nursing responsibilities at Weiss. That dual opportunity to work with operations and nursing attracted him to the position, along with an interest in encouraging a results-oriented, people-focused environment.
“I’m a firm believer in the power of shared decision-making, teamwork and creating alliances,” said Renneker, who plans to spend his early weeks talking with and listening to hospital staff. “I’m committed to establishing a culture of trust, as well as striving for excellence.”
Renneker began his career as a staff nurse at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. His expansive career also includes time at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans as Executive Director; Riveredge Hospital in Forest Park, Ill., as Vice President for Patient Care Services; West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Ill., as Vice President of Clinical Services and Interim Provost for the College of Nursing; and Loyola University Health System as System Executive Director. Since 2002, he has helped to improve quality outcomes and patient service levels, as well as significantly reduced nursing vacancy rates at NorthShore.
With a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati, as well as bachelor’s degrees in nursing and psychology, Renneker is a Nurse Executive Advanced–Board Certified and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
