Weiss Memorial Hospital Hosts Senior Springfest: Event Offers Beauty, Health and Quality of Life Programs for Active Seniors

Apr 01, 2010

CHICAGO (April 1, 2010)—Weiss Memorial Hospital and Home Instead Senior Care host “Senior Springfest: Spring into the New You,” a fun-filled, free program for active seniors focused on beauty, health and quality of life on Wednesday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Medical Office Building adjacent to the hospital, 4700 N. Marine Drive.

“Spring is a time to feel refreshed and renewed,” said Caren Perlmuter, vice president of outreach development and geriatric services at Weiss. “The temperatures are rising and the flowers are blooming – a perfect time for seniors to feel revitalized with new beauty and health routines.”

Most senior events focus on disease diagnosis or management, Senior Springfest centers on improving the body, mind and spirit through programs meant to enhance the lives of active seniors. Men and women who attend can enjoy group exercise, massage therapy, haircuts, manicures, art classes and a fashion show. The event also will include a complimentary breakfast and raffle drawing.

“This is a signature event for Home Instead,” said Susan Phelan, owner of Home Instead. “Looking good on the outside means feeling better on the inside, and we want seniors to leave the Springfest looking beautiful and feeling great.”

Dr. Martin Siglin, geriatrics physician at Weiss, will deliver a keynote presentation about healthy aging, drawing attention to the specialized care seniors require and how events like Senior Springfest are important educational and social resources.

Weiss is located in an area of Chicago with one of the most highly concentrated numbers of elderly residents – an estimated 9,000 people over the age of 65 live in the Uptown neighborhood and about 91,000 seniors live within five miles of Weiss.
