CHICAGO (Dec. 1, 2010) – Weiss Memorial Hospital has been named to Aetna Institutes of Quality Orthopedic Care Total Joint Replacement.

The designation is based on an evaluation of clinical performance and overall value of hospitals in the Aetna network. The Aetna Institute of Quality Orthopedic Care Total Joint Replacement is a new designation, which is being introduced in select regions around the nation. The Institutes are evaluated on a continuing basis and are re-designated every two years.

The Aetna Institutes are publicly searchable in several specialties, to help patients make informed choices about healthcare facilities with distinguished performance, high quality of care and cost-effective services.

Weiss Memorial Hospital provides total joint replacement surgery through the Joint University (JU) program, which offers the latest minimally invasive and rapid-recovery techniques in hip and knee replacement surgery. JU, part of the Chicago Center for Orthopedics at Weiss, emphasizes wellness and maximizes recovery efforts through education, a culture of early mobility, family involvement and group interaction.

“The Joint University program at Weiss is the cornerstone of the Chicago Center for Orthopedics,” said Lynette Wilkos-Prostran, RN, director of orthopedic services at Weiss. “This recognition confirms that patients can feel they are in the very best hands when they come here for a knee or hip replacement.”
