CHICAGO – (April 28, 2011) – Weiss Memorial Hospital is giving women the information they need to stay healthy in May. As part of Women’s Health Month, Weiss will offer a series of free presentations on Women’s Wellness Wednesdays to discuss health conditions commonly affecting women such as fibroids, incontinence, endometriosis and gynecological cancers.
“Education is vital to helping women stay healthy, whether by avoiding illness altogether or identifying and treating conditions early,” said Carlos Rotman, M.D., chief of gynecology and medical director of Women’s Health at Weiss and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Rush Medical College. “In more advanced cases, women need to know about the latest treatment options so they can make an informed decision about their care.”
Each Wednesday evening throughout May, Weiss’ Women’s Health specialists will connect with women to discuss medical conditions that impact them most. In promoting wellness, physicians hope more women will avoid developing diseases. But if disease is detected, immediate treatment leaves women with the best outcomes; so the four wellness sessions also will help women better understand how to facilitate conversations with their primary care provider and what to expect if they need to see a gynecologist or other specialist.
“Women need to know that existing medications are being refined and additional minimally invasive procedures are being offered,” said Bruce Rosenzweig, M.D., associate chief of gynecology at Weiss and assistant professor at Rush University Medical Center. “We believe in avoiding surgery, so women need to be made aware of all their options.”
Topics to be covered during Women’s Wellness Wednesdays:
All of the presentations will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the 6th Floor conference room, “A” elevators, at Weiss Memorial Hospital. For more information, call (800) 503-1234.
