CHICAGO (August 27, 2012) — Weiss Memorial Hospital is ranked No. 27 in the Chicago area in U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals metro area 2012 rankings. The Hospital also received recognition for high performance in its orthopedics specialty, led by Henry Finn, MD, chairman of surgery at Weiss and medical director of the Chicago Center for Orthopedics at Weiss.
“We are consistently looking at ways to improve care to our patients, including with the new upgrades to robotic surgery at Weiss with the most advanced state-of-the-art surgical robot (da Vinci Si ®),” says Jeffrey Steinberg, M.D., F.A.C.S., Chief Executive Officer. “Special recognition for our orthopedic care is a testament to the exceptional work that has gone into building Chicago Center for Orthopedics at Weiss into a program that is recognized for its excellence locally and beyond.”
U.S. News ranked hospitals within all 52 U.S. metro areas with populations of 1 million or more. The rankings identify hospitals that performed nearly as well as the nationally ranked Best Hospitals in at least one of 16 adult specialties. To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties.
U.S. News and World Report looked at 121 hospitals in the Chicago metro area, which includes Aurora, Evanston, Joliet, and Naperville, and placed Weiss among the top-ranking hospitals of this group. With the rankings, the U.S. News score summarizes quality of inpatient care factoring these major elements: reputation, mortality, patient safety and a set of measures related to quality of care, such as patient volume and nursing care.
