Nuclear Medicine

The Nuclear Medicine department at Weiss Memorial Hospital performs diagnostic procedures on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, with most of its work closely linked to treatment of heart patients. The combination of these two specialties provides a practical approach to the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of patients with suspected coronary artery disease.

Nuclear medicine specialists also provide diagnostic exams relative to the central nervous system as well as the endocrine, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and skeletal systems. Inflammatory Nuclear Medicineprocess and tumor imaging can be achieved by whole body gallium and white cell labeling studies.

Our procedure rooms consist of two rooms and three nuclear medicine cameras and a hot lab.  Procedures include, but are not limited to: bone scan, V-Q scan, myocardial perfusion, thyroid study, and radioactive iodine treatments.  Recent procedures added to the nuclear medicine department's diagnostic capabilities include breast imaging, used in conjunction with traditional mammography; lymphscintigraphy; and scintigraphic imaging of acute venous thrombosis.

The department's hours of operation are 7:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.  A nuclear technician is on call at all times for stats.  After hours, call the main hospital phone number:  (773) 878-8700.

Patients must register on the first floor with the admitting office personnel and must have a signed physician's order.
