Weiss Memorial Hospital's goal is to provide the best customer service to our patients and families through outstanding medical practices and attentive employees. The Volunteer Department works toward this goal with its 150 volunteers working within 45 departments of the hospital. As part of the hospital team, volunteers at Weiss complement the care delivered by the professional staff by making sure that the needs of patients, families and visitors are met and their dignity respected.
Volunteers perform a wide variety of duties in the hospital, including giving support to families whose loved ones are undergoing surgery and guiding adults through outpatient doctors' visits, diagnostic tests and procedures. Volunteers at Weiss are instrumental in their patient care duties, serving as patient transporters, patient (advocate) representatives, front desk receptionists, and unit supports.
Weiss also offers a youth volunteer program for those 13 years and older, with parental consent. All volunteers will go through HIPAA training. Volunteer hours are generally between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. However, there are volunteers on the hospital floors and in the departments in the evenings and weekends until 12:00 midnight.
