Dr. Mellgren is a graduate of Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where he received his M.D. and Ph.D. Dr. Mellgren has completed research and clinical fellowships in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota, and has been active at the University of Minnesota for more than 10 years where he served as a clinical professor, director of research, and director of the Pelvic Floor Center.

Dr. Mellgren’s interests include pelvic floor disorders, colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, minimally invasive robotic surgery, innovative treatment options for fecal incontinence, surgical research and teaching. He’s an expert in colon and rectal diseases and the treatment of pelvic floor disorders, and frequently presents at national and international meetings. Additionally, he has an extensive list of original scientific publications on the topic of colorectal diseases and their treatments.
