MARY SHEHAN, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
Chief Executive Officer
Mary A. Shehan, DNP, RN, came to Weiss Memorial Hospital in July 2015, assuming the role of Chief Nursing Officer. In October of 2017, Dr. Shehan assumed the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer and then subsequently accepted the role as Chief Executive Officer in March of 2018.
Prior to this, Dr. Shehan was the senior vice president and chief nursing executive at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, where she also served as the nursing home administrator for Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Extended Care Facility.
During her nursing career, Dr. Shehan has held a variety of positions including clinical nurse specialist for surgical services, operating room nurse manager, and director of surgical and obstetrical services.
Previously, Dr. Shehan was an associate professor to the adjunct faculties at Rush University College of Nursing as well North Park University, College of Nursing. In addition, Dr. Shehan had held the role of nurse surveyor for the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program.
Dr. Shehan earned her BSN in Nursing from the University of Illinois, her MSN in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago, and her DNP from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Shehan is a fellow of the Advisory Board leadership development program for emerging healthcare executives.
Dr. Shehan was appointed in 2014 by the Mayor of Chicago as a commissioner for the North River Expanded Mental Health Services Program. Serving on this commission allows Dr. Shehan to work directly with the community in which she lives, ensuring program funding for this underserved population.
CARMEN FROMAN, MBA
Chief Operations Officer
Ms. Carmen Froman, MBA, is an experienced healthcare professional offering a broad range of operational and fiscal leadership expertise. Since joining Weiss Memorial Hospital in 2016, Ms. Froman has steadily increased her responsibilities, serving first as Director of Radiology, then as Senior Director of Diagnostic and Surgical Services, and finally in 2018, as Chief Operations Officer.
Ms. Froman has a proven track record of effectively developing and implementing organizational performance excellence in diagnostic and interventional imaging departments, wound care, cardiology, lab, cancer center/oncology as well as surgical services. Since joining Weiss she has led a push for employee and patient safety that has improved both employee engagement and patient satisfaction, and successfully led efforts to develop partnerships with community health centers to improve access and hospital efficiency, and grow volume in service lines. Ms. Froman was recently recognized as one of Chicago’s Notable Women in Healthcare 2018 by Crain’s Chicago Business.
Prior to her tenure at Weiss, Ms. Froman served in various management roles for The University of Chicago Medicine, Northwestern Medicine Central Dupage Hospital, and MacNeal Hospital. Ms. Froman holds a Master’s in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Leadership from National Louis University, and Certificates in X-Ray (RT(R) and Cat Scan (CT) from St. Francis School of Radiography. She is a member of the American College of Radiologic Technologists (AART) and Illinois Medical Division of Nuclear Safety (IEMA).
RANDOLPH F. HARRISON, MBA, FACHE
Interim Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Randolph (Randy) F. Harrison, MBA, FACHE, has 35 years of experience as a financial/operational executive in the healthcare industry. Prior to serving Weiss Memorial Hospital as Interim Chief Financial Officer, Randy served as a senior executive with investor owned hospital management companies including Hospital Corporation of America and Lifepoint Hospitals, Inc.Mr. Harrison employs a collaborative management style, with emphasis on empowering staff to achieve desired results in an invigorating work environment. He has shown great effectiveness in balancing cost and quality concerns.
Mr. Harrison brings a strong understanding of operations in a multi-facility setting. His background has enabled him to support strategic planning, corporate compliance, cost management, revenue growth, standardization and infrastructure development. Mr. Harrison earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
DERRICK HELDT-ALVAREZ, MIT-PM, BSN, RN, CRCR
Chief Nursing Officer
Mr. Derrick Heldt-Alvarez holds nearly 20 years of experience within healthcare overseeing nursing departments and patient care areas. His focus is on enhancing nursing care and ensuring positive patient care experience. Additionally, Mr. Heldt-Alvarez drives value-based performance initiatives while ensuring mandatory compliance from oversite agencies such as Joint Commission and Illinois Department of Public Health.
Mr. Heldt-Alvarez joined Weiss Memorial Hospital in 2004 and has held several key positions since then. His experience includes trauma, critical care nursing, quality, employee health, informatics, revenue cycle operations and most recently case management and social services. Prior to joining Weiss, Mr. Heldt-Alvarez was an Intensive Care Unit Staff Nurse for St. James Hospitals.
Mr. Heldt-Alvarez holds a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Olivet University, a Master’s in Information Technology from American InterContinental University, and is currently working toward his Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP).
Chief Human Resources Officer
Ms. Keoni Nader is an accomplished human resources executive with over 20 years of experience. Prior to becoming the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Ms. Nader served as Interim CHRO for Detroit Medical Center Receiving and Harper-Hutzel Hospitals and the Interim Sr. Human Resources Director, Acquisitions and Divestiture for Tenet. Additionally, she served as Vanguard/Tenet’s Director of Human Resources at Weiss and VP, Human Resources for the Chicago Market, overseeing the HR functions for MacNeal, Weiss Memorial, Westlake and West Suburban Hospitals.
In addition to her healthcare experience, Ms. Nader served as an HR executive in the telecom industry. Earlier in her career, she worked in the journalism, retail and HR professional services industries.
Ms. Nader provides extensive experience in change management, employee relations, recruiting, performance management, and acquisitions/mergers, among other responsibilities. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and earned her Master’s in Human Resources from Loyola University.
