Shalyn Vanderbloemen, MPAS, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant working with the Gender Confirmation Surgery (GCS) Program at Weiss Memorial Hospital. Prior to joining the GCS Program, Shalyn worked under the direction of a variety of surgeons specializing in reconstructive, pediatric, aesthetic and microsurgical procedures.As a Physician Assistant for the GCS Program, Shalyn provides a supportive environment as she cares for each patient. She assists each of her patients throughout the entirety of their journey with the team including the initial consultation, perioperative phase, assisting in surgery and providing follow up care. “My goal is to provide exceptional care to our patients and give them the best experience possible,” explains Shalyn. “I am there to provide answers to questions and support throughout the process.”
In addition to being a full time Physician Assistant in the GCS Program, Shalyn is pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management at Loyola University, Chicago. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), World Professional Association on Transgender Health (WPATH), and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). She spends her free time volunteering, attending conferences and lecturing on Transgender Health. She enjoys being an advocate for the LGBT community.
