Weiss Memorial Hospital Names New Medical Director of Vascular Surgery

CHICAGO (June 10, 2013) — Heather A. Hall, M.D., has been named medical director of Vascular Surgery for the Vascular Institute of Chicago at Weiss Memorial Hospital.Dr. Hall, 37, has specialized in vascular and endovascular therapy at Weiss since 2011. She became medical director of the Vascular Laboratory in 2012 before assuming the additional director role in Vascular Surgery this year.

With a special focus on venous disease, including minimally invasive therapy for venous insufficiency and varicose veins, Dr. Hall has treated vascular diseases affecting the aorta, visceral vessels, upper and lower extremities (peripheral arterial disease), and carotid arteries. She performs traditional and minimally invasive surgery for aneurysms, arterial blockages, and carotid stenosis, as well as vascular access, including catheters, fistulas, and grafts for dialysis.

“We are pleased to have Heather step into this leadership role,” said Anthony J. Tedeschi, M.D., chief executive officer at Weiss and chief medical officer at Vanguard Health Chicago (now Tenet Healthcare). “She is dedicated to excellence, and she has demonstrated a strong commitment to her patients beyond the operating room and clinics.”

The Vascular Institute of Chicago at Weiss works closely with the Vein Clinic at Weiss, and offers a multidisciplinary approach, which results in the best treatment option available for each patient. Weiss also offers the cardiovascular screening program DARE to C.A.R.E. to the community, which provides educational materials, blood pressure checks, noninvasive ultrasound exams of the carotid arteries and abdominal aorta, and evaluations of leg circulation. Consultations are available with the ultimate goal of keeping patients healthy.

“I’m drawn to vascular surgery because of the long-term relationships I’m able to have with my patients through disease management, and surgical and endovascular therapy,” Dr. Hall said. “I’m proud to be part of the vascular team here and now, in this position, to be able to enhance the treatments tailored to best serve each patient.”

Dr. Hall graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Boston College and went on to receive her medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. She completed her residency in general surgery at Brown University and finished a fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Chicago.

In addition to her clinical duties, Dr. Hall is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and American Venous Forum. She also is working with the Illinois Vascular Study Group on venous quality. She has reviewed articles and published book chapters for medical journals.
