Chicago, March 8, 2022 – The Uptown community is about to receive a jolt of positive news. The Chicago Center for Orthopedics at Weiss Memorial Hospital has been recognized for achieving the national standards for safety and quality care in orthopedics.
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (Joint Commission) is a global nonprofit that accredits more than 22,000 US healthcare associations. Achieving their Gold Seal of approval requires a comprehensive review of processes and delivery of care practices to ensure patient safety. “
The Joint Commission’s Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes healthcare organizations’ commitment to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, R.N., M.S., chief operating officer for Accreditation and Certification Operations at the Joint Commission. “We commend The Chicago Center for Orthopedics for using certification in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for orthopedic patients.”
“Receiving this national recognition is a big deal, especially when it focuses on our orthopedics services” said Henry Finn, M.D., medical director. “Few orthopedic centers take the time to undergo the rigorous evaluation and assessment from the Joint Commission because it is difficult to achieve. We are deeply honored and excited about this announcement.”
Specifically, accreditation from the Joint Commission recognizes the importance of the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation, hospitalization, ambulatory surgical admission, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visits. The Gold Seal of Approval comes with a rigorous process that evaluates every level of the healthcare program and required in-person evaluations.
Upon learning that the orthopedic unit received Joint Commission accreditation, Uptown United & Uptown Chamber of Commerce announced its support. “This is incredible news,” said Sarah Wilson, Executive Director of Uptown United and Uptown Chamber of Commerce. “It speaks a lot to the leadership of the hospital. How wonderful for the Uptown community to have access to critical and successful care in their own neighborhood. We are delighted that they are making so many strides in their care.”
