The Cardiac surgery team at Weiss is dedicated to providing expert care for those in need of heart surgery. They perform coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and heart valve repair or replacement surgery. They work in collaboration with the cardiologists, diagnostic testing team and cardiac rehabilitation to individualize the best care and treatment plan.
Amjad I. Sheikh, M.D.
, is Chief of Cardiology and Director of Cardiac Rehab for Weiss Memorial Hospital, and has served as past President of the Medical Staff. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. He served as a full-time Associate Professor at the University of Chicago from 1992-2001. He is now in full time practice in Interventional and Clinical Cardiology. Dr. Sheikh specializes in cardiovascular disease and heart failure, echocardiography, and invasive cardiology. Having founded and been involved in supervising cardiac rehab at Weiss for a number of years, Dr. Sheikh has a special interest in the role of exercise in preventive cardiology.
Edgar G. Chedrawy, M.D., M.S.c., F.R.C.S.C., F.A.C.S., M.H.A,
is an accomplished professor, author and lecturer on cardiovascular and thoracic issues. Dr. Chedrawy is a leading surgeon in his field, has published numerous articles and book chapters, and is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). With a background in Health Administration, Dr. Chedrawy also serves on key executive and clinical committees at UIC and Weiss Memorial Hospital.
